Why country-specific calculators matter

A salary figure means little until you know what is taken from it — and every European country takes it differently. The UK taxes you in bands with a personal allowance that tapers away above £100,000. Germany runs your taxable income through a mathematical formula with a smooth curve rather than steps. France divides your household income into "parts" before applying its tranches. The Netherlands taxes employment income in Box 1 with just two brackets plus credits. Ireland adds a separate Universal Social Charge on top of income tax. Spain and Italy each run their own progressive scales, and Spain's autonomous regions can adjust the national rates further.

Generic "European tax calculators" that apply one method everywhere produce misleading numbers. Each calculator on this site implements the actual rules of its country for 2026: the real bands, the real thresholds, the real credits and allowances, verified against official sources. Where a 2026 figure had not yet been published at the time of writing, the page clearly labels the latest confirmed year it uses.

How to use this site

Pick your country above and enter your gross annual income. Every calculator shows a full breakdown — not just the final number — so you can see exactly which band or credit produced each line. Results are estimates for planning and comparison: they do not include every personal circumstance (pension contributions, specific deductions, regional variations), so treat them as a strong starting point and confirm important decisions with a qualified tax advisor.
